My wife and I attended a local broadcast of Dave Ramsey’s “Town Hall for HOPE” event. We both really enjoyed the event and listening to Dave putting a CLEAR perspective on the current economy.
The “main stream media” has put out SO much mis-information and played the PANIC card so much that many people really believe and feel that the economy has never been this bad.
Here is a quick comparison -
The Great Depression (1938-1940):
* Unemployment 17%+
* Stock Market dropped 89%
* There were REAL bread lines
Recession of 1974:
* Stock Market dropped 50%
* Gas lines for blocks (do you remember that?)
* Inflation became stagflation
Recession of 1982:
* Unemployment 10%
* Rapid inflation – over 10%
* Interest rates 17% on mortgages
TODAY
* Unemployment 8.5%
* Stock Market dropped 57% (Has recently recovered from 6400 to over 8000)
* NO Inflation
Even though things aren’t perfect, this current recession is not as bad as the 1974 recession and not even close to the “Great Depression”!
So what can we do?
TAKE ACTION: Don’t let politics and the economy just happen around you. Get involved! Like Dave says, “Don’t just say you’ll pray about it. Get off the couch and get to work!” Dave outlines three ways you can get involved right now.

No one else is going to solve your problems for you – that’s your job! Find out how you can take control of your money, turn back the fear and hold your representatives accountable for the decisions they’re making on your behalf.
We’re sick and tired of the “loser talk” that has permeated the media, the water cooler and the Internet. Stop listening to the garbage and start speaking a word of hope!
Learn to give – whether it’s money, time or support. Giving changes your whole mindset. Dave says it pretty clearly: “We can’t win if we can’t give.” If you want to win with money and change the nation – learn how to give again.
I believe we MUST take control of our own situation and establish clear plans and strategies to manage our lives and finances – WITHIN OUR MEANS.
Just say NO to fear!
